hi andrei,

the idea is within taggedfrog you can set applications to open specific filetypes. example, your using taggedfrog portably, you have an .html that you like to view in firefox, but the computer your using doesn't have firefox installed, luckily, you have portable firefox with you and you set it to associate with .html files, when you open the .html, portable firefox will be called instead the default internet browser of the computer you are using.

3 - sample (reference xyplorer tip)
These associations between filename patterns and applications are private to XYplorer and portable. They are completely independent of the system wide file associations stored in the registry.

Syntax:
  pattern(s)>application

Examples with simple extension patterns:
  png>C:\Programs\Viewer\Viewer.exe
png;jpg>C:\Programs\Viewer\Viewer.exe [more than one pattern, separated by ;]
png>..\Viewer\Viewer.exe [relative to this XYplorer's path]
png>?:\Programs\Viewer\Viewer.exe [? is set to drive where this XYplorer is running from]
  txt>%windir%\notepad.exe [environment variables allowed]
txt>notepad [registered applications need base name only]

Examples with other patterns:
  readme.txt>readmeview.exe [load readme.txt files with readmeview.exe]
?:\*.pdf>?:\Programs\pdfview.exe [load PDF files on app drive with a viewer on app drive]

You can as well enter a script that will be triggered on opening a file:
*.exe>::copytext <curver> [copies the version number of a dbl-clicked executable]

+1, this would be needed for internal file association.:)

hello,

The availability of portable apps opens up the way to carry apps from one computer to another, having an internal file association built-into taggedfrog would create flexibility in viewing/editing tagged files. the internal file assocaition would be responsible in opening up certain filetype with an application (portableapps/installed) especiailly helpful when the computer doesnt have the application installed.

Example of programs with internal file association -
q-dir 3.93 - http://www.softwareok.com/?seite=freeware/Q-Dir
xyplorer - http://www.xyplorer.com/

thanks:)

Hello all,

Here is how to enable portable mode:

From Andrei:
"If you would like to enable "portable mode" please edit TaggedFrog.exe.config file and change value of key "Portable" from "false" to "true". In this mode the application will use configuration file and database from the current folder (so don't forget to copy your database wink )"

Reference:
http://lunarfrog.com/support/topic26.html

Additional Information:
set zerofootprint = "true" in taggedfrog.exe.config to prevent taggedfrog from storing information in the registry

Reference:
http://lunarfrog.com/support/topic87.html

Hope this helps!:)

hi Andrei,

i've been wondering if you have thought of making taggedfrog a full blown file manager? i've been using taggedfrog only when i need to search for files, and the rest of the time i've been using xyplorer free file manager or xplorer2 or windows explorer. and more times i use the file managers to search for files. i've been looking for a filemanager with tagging capability and as of now there is none available. it would be nice if while browsing the computer files i could tag files automatically.

thanks Andrei for the 0.8.3, this is what ive been looking for.

hi Andrei,

thanks for the updated version, i have followed your instructions and the location of the database is now in the current folder. its working perfectly. thanks! big_smile

One more thing that i like to request is to move the registry keys to an .ini file so that it wont write anything to the host pc.

thanks again! great job!:)

thanks Andrei! big_smile looking forward to the solution!:D

hi Andrei,

just testing the new 0.8.1, i just noticed that the location of the database has been moved from the same folder of the application to a location specified in the registry. i was able to move the database back into the application folder by removing the values in the registry (Application, Backup, ShellEx, Library).

i'm using the portable version so i would like to request for the database to be inside the application folder like in the 0.7 version.

and im not sure if 0.7 has registry keys, but 0.8.1 has, would it be possible for the registry keys be put in an .ini file instead the registry of the host computer?

this request is because im using the portable version on an external harddrive and use it on different computers.

thanks!:D

hello,

good day,

i would like to request a way to interface "Everything search engine" in taggedfrog - http://voidtools.com/, its portable and small, it is the fastest search program available for windows. this would make tagging and searching for files seamlessly in taggedfrog.

im not a programmer so im not sure if this would be possible, but i have seen some program that interface other program example is ejectusb - http://www.pocketappreview.com/main/item/ejectusb - the main program interface with other programs to help in ejecting the usb.

you should check Everything search engine out, i think the source code is available for download. http://www.voidtools.com/download.php - you can download the ipc sdk there.

smile:) thank you

hello,

good day,

i would like to request to replace the current icon, this would make the program stand out, because the check mark is too generic, my suggestion is the origami frog on your website, i really like the origami frog, it would be better on the center of the green box than the check mark, i think it would suit the program taggedfrog better.

hello,

good day,

i would like to be able to tag folders/files inside the folder, it will be grouped in the result box, the name of the folder under it the files, example:

============================
folderA
    document1.doc
    document2.doc
    document3.pdf
folderB
    document1.doc
    document2.pdf
    folderC
      document3.doc
      document4.pdf

============================
something like that in the search result, these can be collapsed and show only the folder name to save space in the result box.

i would like to see this feature because i organized my files in folders before, this would really help me in tagging the files quickly.
